May Primary: Support statewide candidates who support YOU

Apr 30, 2018, 13:26 PM

As we approach the Tuesday, May 8 Primary, Ohioans are preparing to choose their parties' candidates to represent them in the November elections. This includes statewide candidates vying for the state's top offices.

At its April 2018 meeting, the OCSEA State Board of Directors announced its endorsements for several statewide races, including Auditor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Treasurer. All of the OCSEA-endorsed candidates below support the work public employees do, oppose the privatization of public services, reject Right to Work laws and favor a strong middle class.

These statewide office endorsements were made by the OCSEA Board of Directors' Governmental Affairs Committee and were based on thorough screenings of the candidates on topics that impact OCSEA public employee members. This includes candidates' stances on everything from collective bargaining to contracting out. Candidates who will oversee cabinet agencies that bargain with the union were asked specifically their methods for bargaining a contract. OCSEA has a strict no-endorse policy for any individuals who support privatization of public services and Right to Work laws.

"Being in a union, sometimes we have to make compromises. It's the nature of the bargaining beast. But there's one thing that we absolutely will not budge on: our support of pro-union, pro-public employee candidates," said Committee chair Rocky Jolly.
